Drake Mallard by Down East Decoy Co.

Feeding Drake Mallard Decoy
By Downeast Sportcraft Decoy Company
Freeport, Maine

Downeast was owned by brothers Gordon W. and James Edward Coffin of Freeport, Maine.  At a time when their construction business was slow, due to WWII, the brothers started this company. Gordon had been making decoys for his own use and developed the design and master patterns to produce very pleasing products. James handled the administrative side of the business.

After only 4 years of production, it seemed the post WWII construction business became more profitable than making decoys. So in 1950 the business was sold to Ray Clough of Yarmouth, Maine only to cease operation in less than a year.

This field feeding decoy has 3 holes in the bottom so it could be used with 2 stick-up legs or with a single mount.
